What is different about coverage in Georgia
Georgia's ACA marketplace, Georgia Access, is unusual in that it's operated directly by the state's insurance regulator rather than a separate exchange agency, and Georgia Medicaid runs through the Department of Community Health. Georgia Medical Insurance is free to use for Georgia callers working through Medicare, ACA, life, or supplemental coverage questions.
- Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids are administered by the Department of Community Health (DCH) -- DCH is the right place to start if your Georgia Medicaid eligibility changed.
- Georgia Access, live since the November 2024 open enrollment period, is Georgia's own marketplace and takes the place of HealthCare.gov for Georgia residents shopping for ACA coverage.
- GeorgiaCares, reachable at 1-866-552-4464 (option 4), provides Medicare counseling for Georgia residents at no cost, entirely separate from Georgia Medical Insurance's own free phone help.
Worth knowing: Georgia Access is run as a division within the state's own insurance regulator (OCI), not a separate standalone marketplace agency the way most other state-based exchanges are structured -- one agency handles both the marketplace and general insurance complaints.

Where do I shop for ACA health plans in Georgia?
Georgia residents shop through Georgia Access (https://georgiaaccess.gov). An independent agent such as Lander LLC can explain the plans for you, but the marketplace is the only place premium tax credits are applied.
How do I apply for Medicaid in Georgia?
Medicaid in Georgia is run through Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) (https://medicaid.georgia.gov). Eligibility depends on income, household size and other factors, and it is decided by the state, not by an insurance agency.
Who regulates insurance in Georgia?
Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) (https://oci.georgia.gov) regulates insurance companies and agents in Georgia. You can use it to check that an agent or company is licensed and to file a complaint.
Is there free, unbiased Medicare help in Georgia?
Yes. GeorgiaCares (1-866-552-4464) offers free Medicare counseling through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), separate from any insurance agency.
Does Georgia Medical Insurance cost anything to use?
There is no cost to call or to speak with an agent. Insurance premiums and plan costs are set by the insurance companies and are separate from our help.
